Peter Zaspel appointed as new professor for Software for Data-Intensive Applications
The newly established professorship for Software for Data-Intensive Applications has been filled by 01.07.2023. We are pleased to have Peter Zaspel as an expert in machine learning approaches and uncertainty analysis for interdisciplinary applications such as quantum chemistry and climate reconstruction.
Peter Zaspel studied computer science at the University of Bonn, where in 2015 he also received his PhD in applied mathematics. As a postdoc, he started at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies. Afterwards, he carried out his habilitation at the Department for Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Basel (Switzerland). Before coming to Wuppertal, he was professor at Constructor University (formerly: Jacobs-Universität) in Bremen.
He brings to Wuppertal a project within the DFG Priority Program SPP 2363 "" on the topic "Multi-fidelity, active learning strategies for exciton transfer among adsorbed molecules" as well as a DFG research grant on the topic "Excitation Energy Transfer in a Photosynthetic System with more than 100 Million Atoms". Furthermore, he has projects on the topics "Bayesian Chronology Modelling for Paleoclimate Archives" and "Bayesian Chronology Modelling for Paleoclimate Archives" in the Helmholtz School for Marine Data Science (MarDATA).
