IMACM members Birgit Jacob and Hannes Gernandt initiated an international port-Hamiltonian online seminar series. Once a month, an international expert will deliver a lecture on a timely topic in the filed.

Since 1 December 2023, Hannes Gernandt is the new Junior Professor for Port Hamiltonian Systems in Wuppertal. We are delighted to have gained an expert in port Hamiltonian systems and their interdisciplinary applications for the IMACM.

In the DFG Review Board elections, IMACM chair Birgit Jacob has been elected to the Review Board for Mathematics for a second term. The IMACM warmly congratulates her on this election, which also expresses her scientific reputation and trust within the mathematics community.

This traditional conference, preceded by a workshop for students, took place in Hammamet (Tunisia) and was organized by IMACM member Prof. Barbara Rüdiger together with colleagues from Dublin City University, Ecole Polytechnique, Ghent University, Linnaeus University, Tunis El Manar University, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Wuppertal and the University of Oslo. The event was partly funded by the DAAD. The conference is now a regular event, which originated more than 20 years ago through the commitment of Habib Ouerdiane and his desire to bridge and discuss the new trends in the interplay of analysis, probability and their applications. The conference took place from October 16 to 20, 2023 and commemorated Professor Ouerdiane, who passed away suddenly in March of this year and had already laid the foundation for this year's event.
Workshop and conference on stochastics in financial mathematics and physics in Hammamet (Tunisia)

ModConFlex is the acronym for "Modelling and control of flexible structures interacting with fluids". This doctoral network within the EU Marie Curie Sklodowska actions is coordinated by Prof. Birgit Jacob from IMACM. The hiring process of the Ph.D. students is meanwhile (almost) finished, and all students and their advisors joined for a kick-off and first training event at University of Twente (NL) from November 13 to 18.

New IMACM members

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is supporting a project by IMACM member Thomas Kruse in 2024 and 2025 as part of its project-related exchange of persons programme with France (PROCOPE). The project partner in France is Alexandre Popier's group at the Laboratoire Manceau de Mathématiques at the University of Le Mans. The project funding is intended in particular to strengthen the scientific exchange between the two research institutions and to give young scientists the opportunity to gain international research experience through research stays at the partner institution.
DAAD funds research project between Wuppertal and Le Mans (F)

On 24.10.2023, IMACM member PD Dr Matthias Rottmann gave his inaugural lecture at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. He gave a broad overview of his research in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), in particular Deep Learning, and his research on methods to make AI more reliable and efficient.
