Hanno Gottschalk's farewell party

31.03.2023|22:34 Uhr

Hanno Gottschalk celebrated his departure from Wuppertal on March 31 with a down-to-earth party ("we'll leave the speeches alone"). On April 1, 2023, he will move to the TU Berlin to take up a professorship in the field of "Mathematical Modeling of Industrial Life Cycles" with a focus on digitization for the Werner von Siemens Centre for Industry and Science.

After completing his doctorate in Bochum, his habilitation in Bonn and an interlude in industry at Siemens Energy, Hanno Gottschalk was appointed to a professorship in stochastics at our university in 2011. His twelve years in Wuppertal were characterized by particular creativity and innovation in research and teaching and by his personal integrity.

Hanno Gottschalk helped establish the IMACM and also was  its spokesperson from 2016 to 2018. For the university, he was the founding spokesperson of the Institute for Machine Learning and Data Analytics and thus shaped the university's research profile in the field of artificial intelligence.  He was also instrumental in obtaining the Transfer Center BIT - Bergische Innovationsplattform für Künstliche Intelligenz from the state of NRW. Many research collaborations at IMACM can be traced back to his initiative. As an enthusiastic researcher and teacher, Hanno Gottschalk has supervised numerous students and has been able to win many of them as doctoral students for the mathematical-stochastic fundamentals and for exciting applications of Machine Learning and Deep Learning.

Dear Hanno, we wish you a lot of success and satisfaction in the capital. And we look forward to continuing to meet you both scientifically in projects and personally, for example at the Beyenburg Reservoir.
