Looking back at May 12th Day

IMACM contributed to the May12 initiative. The goal of the May12 initiative “is to inspire women everywhere to celebrate their achievements in mathematics, and to encourage an open, welcoming and inclusive work environment for everybody.

On May 15 the IMACM invited Sophie Irmey to speak about “Formulas of equality: anti-discrimination in MINT”. She gave a very nice introduction to the important topic of anti-discrimination and highlighted the difference in perception of contributions of female researchers in the history of science compared to the result often named after male researchers. Moreover, she emphasised the importance of privilege in social interaction and motivated to keep these in mind in all our communications. We were very happy about the diverse audience and hope that even more people will attend our follow-up events.
