On January 28, the general assembly of the IMACM-Juniors took place. In addition to the obligatory introduction of the IMACM-Juniors and the election of a new chair, the meeting provided a platform for discussions on the planning of future events. Joint network meetings, workshops, and tutorials are being organized to support all members of IMACM-Juniors.

Following the formal part, the attendees engaged in an exhilarating game session showcasing their Mario Kart skills.

Der Emissionshandel ist ein zentrales Instrument im Kampf gegen den Klimawandel. Durch die Einführung von CO2-Zertifikaten werden Anreize für Unternehmen geschaffen, ihre Emissionen zu reduzieren. Ein Forschungsprojekt der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal will dieses System noch effizienter machen, indem es neue mathematische Modelle entwickelt. Diese Modelle sollen helfen, die Preise für Emissionszertifikate und Zertifikate für erneuerbare Energien genauer vorherzusagen.

The aim of the Autumn–School in Tunis, Oct. 13-19,2024, is to train presentation skills to communicate with a talk and a poster containing own research results at an international conference. This is why the workshop preceeds the conference on `Stochastic in Mathematical Finance and Physics’ in Hammamet, Oct. 20-26. All students attending the Autumn-School in Tunis will discuss their results with renowned scientists at the Hammamet- Conference during a poster session. Four students attending the Autumn-School will be selected to present also a talk at the Hammamet-Conference.

Jacob B. Schroder von der University of New Mexico, USA, hält sich für ein Jahr am IMACM als Gastprofessor auf. Mit seinem Gastgeber, PD Dr. Karsten Kahl, wird Prof. Schroder in der Arbeitsgruppe Angewandte Informatik an algebraischen Mehrgitterverfahren arbeiten und sich damit an den Forschungsvorhaben zu Lösern für die Gittereichtheorie und port Hamiltonschen Systeme beteiligen. Mit seinen Arbeiten zu parallelen Zeitintegrationsmethoden bestehen zudem Anknüpfungspunkte zur Arbeitsgruppe High Performance Computing (Prof. Bolten). Willkommen in Wuppertal, Jacob!

IMACM Juniors meeting at the beginning of the lecture-free period in the summer 2024

Current research presented in a different way! PhD students and postdocs from the individual working groups discussed their research in an exciting format this time - in the form of power point
karaoke. Instead of presenting their own slides, they happened to present randomly someone else's.
Not only did the IMACM juniors get to know each other in a special way, but also had the opportunity to put their presentation skills to the test.

Afterwards, the organisation of future meetings was discussed. Joint network meetings are planned, as well as workshops and tutorials that can support all IMACM Juniors in their scientific work
across all subjects. The IMACM Juniors cordially invite you to a joint lunch every first Tuesday of the month at 12:30h in the Mensa.

Im Master-Programm MATHS-DISC "Mathematical Modelling, Simulation and Data Science for Industrial and Societal Challenges" kooperiert die Bergische Universität über das IMACM mit der Universität Verona, dem Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute Kiev, dem Instituto Superior Técnico Lissabon, der Universität Grenoble Alpes, der Universität NTNU Trondheim und weiteren 20 Partnern aus der Industrie und Forschung. Diese internationale Zusammenarbeit garantiert den Studierenden, von renommierten Lehrkräften und Forschenden zu lernen, und bietet die Möglichkeit, ein umfassendes Netzwerk aufzubauen.

Zuverlässige Daten für zuverlässige künstliche Intelligenz - das ist das Thema des neuen BMBF-Verbundforschungsprojektes RELiABEL. Wuppertaler Wissenschaftler um IMACM Mitglied PD Dr. Matthias Rottmann forschen gemeinsam mit dem Technologie-Startup QualityMatch GmbH aus Heidelberg an Methoden, mit denen Bilddaten für das automatisierte Fahren zuverlässig gekennzeichnet werden können.

Gefördert durch den Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst DAAD starten in der Arbeitsgruppe „Angewandte und Computergestützte Mathematik“ des IMACM gleich drei neue Projekte. Die internationalen Partner sind Universitäten in Hong Kong, Frankreich und Portugal; geleitet werden die Projekte von Long Teng, Thomas Kruse und Matthias Ehrhardt.
